I’m A Survivor

Yes, this is the sign that you will see when entering the Orange County CHOC hospital playroom. The meaning of this sign is understood after you have visited the children in the hospital and its meaning will be engraved in your heart forever. Visiting the oncology floor at CHOC hospital was a blessing for all of us, bringing the Magic World of Mark Roberts Limited Edition Fairies, representing them and sharing the belief that there is magic in our life, you just have to close your eyes and believe in it. The smiles of the children, the interest and questions of the parents, knowing that the magic that surrounded them was the best gift we could ever dream of.

The visitors were, the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Christmas Magic Fairy and the Leprechaun Fairy. Each one very special in their own identity and in their magical world. The Fairies were able to share with the children their wonderful life experience, their joy and their love.

The children: looking, talking, touching, smiling and believing. How real are these Fairies? Where do they come from? How do you create magic? Do you really have skin?

A young boy from Hawaii was the first child to approach the Fairies. He was energetic, enthusiastic and of great spirit in life. He believed in the Leprechaun Fairy, the magic of the rainbow and its beautiful colors. How is the rainbow created? Does the Leprechaun fairy really lives in the rainbow land? The Leprechaun fairy had his magic shamrock wand and told him  “If you close your eyes and believe, you will see the rainbow and all the beautiful colors” So, he did and when he opened his eyes, he told the Leprechaun Fairy “ I saw the rainbow, the angels and you” He, was enchanted by the shamrock wand and he also wanted to create magic himself. How precious it is to have a child to believe in the magic of life, his smile, his love, enthusiasm and curiosity were very precious. After playing with many different Fairies, he chose the Carrot Fairy and the Bahamas Beach Fairy as his gifts!

A young brother and sister were sharing crayons and coloring the fairies costumes for the “Fairy Creation Contest” as their imagination wanted them to be. It seemed that the Healing Heart Fairy stayed with them.

Walking into the room of a very young and beautiful little girl, blue eyes and blond curls, laying on the hospital bed, she was surprise to see the Leprechaun and the Christmas Magic Fairy. “She loves the blue color,” her mother stated, and yes, the Gardener Fairy was there by her side to stay, to keep her company with the Butterfly and Pansy Fairy. She did not smile very much, but the Fairies knew that their magic was there to stay with her.

Finally, a young boy who was barely well enough to leave his room asked his mom to keep us there a few more minutes. We waited by the elevators for a few minutes, and soon enough, he came around the corner on crutches and attached to an “i.v.”. He identified himself with the Leprechaun Fairy. He was very proud to let the Fairies know that he was Irish and of course he knew about the Leprechaun Fairy. He told the Leprechaun Fairy that sometimes he was naughty because he did not like to do the things that people asked him to do. The Leprechaun Fairy smiled and told him, “I also try to do good things”. They then hugged and shared a big smile. Our last Fairy, the Uncle Sam Fairy, who was not chosen by any of the children in the Oncology floor seemed to have been waiting for this moment we all knew, because when this boy hobbled around the corner, he was wearing a shirt with the American Flag patterned on it. Somehow, the angels must have been there with us…how else could you explain that each child’s wishes came true that day with the magical help of some Fairies!
